Background removal guide

Choosing safe settings

Automatic removal works best when the subject has a clear outline and differs from the background. Sharp, well-lit images outperform compressed screenshots. Hair, glass and shadows can require manual cleanup.

For product images, use consistent lighting and a plain background. Keep the original photograph and treat the transparent result as a separate design asset.

Quality checklist

Transparent results should be saved as PNG. Saving as JPEG replaces transparency with a solid background. Inspect edges at full size before using the asset.

Preview the export at its intended size. Keep the original until the new file has been checked. If an output looks blurred, return to a larger source instead of repeatedly editing a compressed copy.

Privacy and safe handling

Before uploading a sensitive file, consider whether local software is more appropriate. Remove unnecessary metadata from files intended for public release and inspect the final item for names, location information or private background details.

A practical selection checklist

Use descriptive names that identify purpose or revision. Avoid overwriting the source until the new file has been checked on the device or application where it will actually be used.

Keep an original copy. Repeatedly opening and exporting a lossy file can introduce blur, ringing or block artifacts. Create new derivatives from the best available source instead of converting an already compressed copy again.
