What we collect
When you allow analytics, StoryDrop records a random browser session identifier, visit time, page path, referring site, device category and model when available, operating-system name and version, browser family, language, time zone, screen size and general connection type. We store only a shortened network region (IPv4 /24 or IPv6 /48), not your full IP address. Media links submitted for analysis are processed to provide the requested service and may appear in temporary server logs. If you use server-based tools, the selected image, video, audio or document is sent to our server for processing; browser-only tools keep the file on your device. If you contact support through the website form, we receive the name, email address and message you enter.
Android app
The StoryDrop Android app creates a random anonymous installation identifier. To operate and diagnose the app, it sends event type, app version, Android version, manufacturer and device model, media and source categories, error code and processing time to our server. The separate telemetry event payload does not include the submitted media URL. However, a media URL or a file that you choose to process is sent to the service when necessary to perform that request. Operational analysis and download records may include the submitted URL, output filename, file size and selected format. Error reports are designed to remove URLs, tokens and passwords. The app does not ask for your name, phone number, gender, Google account or Gmail credentials for these operations.
The app also uses Google advertising services. Google may receive advertising identifiers and device or usage data under its own privacy policy. If you purchase an optional Pro subscription, Google Play handles payment and subscription information; we do not receive your payment-card number. The app requests network access, optional notifications and file access needed for local media tools and saving results. Its in-app browser opens StoryDrop website pages, including server-based tools and the support form, so the website data practices above also apply when you use those pages from the app. Data entered on unrelated third-party websites is governed by those websites' policies.
How we use it
We use this information to operate downloads, measure usage, diagnose errors, prevent abuse and improve StoryDrop. A technical summary of a consented visit may be sent to the private StoryDrop administrator chat on Telegram. Hourly aggregate reports may include visitor, analysis, download and error totals.
Storage and retention
Detailed web-visit records are automatically removed after 30 days. Aggregate operational events may be retained longer. Downloaded media is held temporarily while it is delivered and is then removed.
Your choices
Analytics is optional. Select “Decline” in the notice to use the download service without detailed visitor analytics. You can clear the site’s local storage to reset your choice and anonymous session identifier.
The website analytics choice does not control Android operational telemetry. You may stop future Android telemetry by uninstalling the app. Contact us to request deletion of data associated with your anonymous installation identifier.
Advertising and third parties
If advertising is enabled, ad providers such as Google may process cookies, device information and approximate location under their own privacy terms. Where required, an approved consent platform will be shown before advertising tags load. Media providers and Telegram process information according to their respective policies.
